Dr. Miguel Delgado Shares Just Released Cosmetic Surgery Statistics from ASPS with San Francisco Bay Area and Marin Patients

Dr. Delgado stated per ASPS that for the year 2011, 13.8 million cosmetic surgery procedures were performed; this includes both surgery and what is considered minimally invasive procedures. Minimally invasive procedures were up 6% with almost 12.2 million performed. The top 5 would be:
1. Botox injections (up 5%)
2. Soft tissue fillers, such as; Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse and fat injections (up 7%)
3. Chemical peel (down 3%)
4. Laser hair removal (up 15%)
5. Microdermabrasion (up 9%)
Cosmetic surgical procedures were up 2% with 1.6 million performed. The top 5 would be:
1. Breast augmentation (up 4%)
2. Nose reshaping (down 3%)
3. Liposuction (up 1%)
4. Eyelid surgery (down 6%)
5. Facelift (up 5%)
It is interesting to note that facelift surgery is in the top 5 for the first time since 2004. This is attributed to the demands of the baby boomer population and older professionals still competing in the workforce.
A popular surgical procedure for men, up almost 71% since 2010 is chin augmentation. It is believed that men are seeking a stronger more forceful appearance as noted in many actors such as George Clooney, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Brad Pitt and CEO’s of successful companies such as Warren Buffet and John Mack.
It is encouraging to see significant growth in plastic surgery for two years in a row. Even though the economic recovery in the United States is uncertain, trends are showing consumer confidence is up.
